I am passionate about family, art, life, culture and adventures.
Inspiration comes from the outdoors; urban or forest- they are my oasis. Western New York is in my heart & community is family. Laugh-Tell Jokes-Work Hard- Enjoy the People Around You Contemplative Reflections, By Amy Vena |
Experience with travel and community projects greatly influences my creative pursuits. Within every creative pursuit lives a passion for community connection, learning, and a greater understanding of the environment. Receiving an M.F.A. from the Rochester Institute of Technology, with a focus on painting and art gallery management, honed technical skills and opened a network of international opportunity.
The 2D artworks, I create, are predominantly mixed media, but at times created with traditional methods and representational form. The mixed media work is typically composed of abstracted realities, with a strong focus on organic entities, reflecting an immense awe and passion for life and nature.
It is an honor to be able to share artworks internationally and be acknowledged amongst peers including: receiving The Purchase Prize Award from R.I.T.’s Wallace Library, (2011); presenting on a Panel at the College Art Association Conference in Los Angeles, C.A. (2012); presenting artworks at ARTexchange (C.a.a. Conference) in New York City (2013); and receiving the Arena Art Group Award at Rochester Contemporary Art Center’s Member Exhibition (2015).
From 2015-2017, I was proud to serve as Show Director, and Artist Liaison for Arts at the Gardens, a regional juried exhibition of over 100 fine art and fine craft professionals. And in 2018, serving as a contributor to Art House Press (issue IV, Rochester NY 2018).
Teaching as an adjunct instructor at the Rochester Institute of Technology, in painting and drawing, enabled a sharing of passion for technical acumen with many aspiring and emerging creative professionals.
Curating, design, hard-work ethic, and a knack for strategic storytelling has built lasting and impactful relationships with regional non-profit institutions, boards, committees, and independent clients.
I maintain a fervent belief that artists can be successful in a myriad of professional pursuits, as long as one believes and is willing to invest in the knowledge and skills to succeed. Life is a journey, and the path is often non-linear.
Maintaining a passion for art, arts administration, cultural history, and teaching- influences current pursuits as a freelance independent artist, adjunct faculty, freelance curator, guest lecturer, and Program Manager for a large a decentralized global pharmaceutical company.
